Bill and Gloria Townsend have been Captain D’s franchisees since 2002. They opened their first family-run restaurant in Murfreesboro, TN. In 2008, they added two restaurants in Tuscaloosa, AL and two in Florida. The Townsend’s are now planning to add two additional restaurants.
Hunter Atkins is part of two franchise groups located in Kentucky and Louisiana/Ohio. He has been a Captain D’s franchise owner for over 30 years. According to Hunter, Captain D’s “is on the cusp of dynamic sales going forward.”
“I’m very impressed with the direction the Captain D’s brand is headed, and our recent sales data has proven that. There’s an emphasis on doing what’s right for the guest, which has always been a big part of my philosophy. We’re making decisions based on what our guests desire . . . We’ve developed new products that are home runs and I’m very excited about new grilled items which enhance and upgrade our menu. Fish and fries have always been a large part of our business, but certainly not all we can capture. Now we can reach the health conscious and people who are looking for that kind of variety.” - Jim McClure, 4 restaurants in Georgia
“You can never minimize the effect of being a franchisee when you have a good franchisor. You still have your own business, but you don’t have to spend the dollars testing things and finding new seafood products to appeal to a broader base of guests. Captain D’s provides us with advertising materials and new products to keep things fresh. With the corporate team we have now, there’s so much responsiveness. They go out, work on new things, and then bring them to you so you don’t invest money in something that’s not proven.” - Lisa Starnes, 7 restaurants in Texas
